Josh Barfield Optioned to Bisons 03/25/2008 7:59 PM ETBuffalo Bisons
The Cleveland Indians today announced that 2B Josh Barfield has been optioned to the Buffalo Bisons roster. RHP Scott Elarton was also reassigned to minor league camp. Barfield, 25, has spent the last two seasons in the Major Leagues. The Indians traded for Barfield from San Diego prior to the 2007 season and he hit .243 (102-420) with 19 doubles, three home runs and 50RBI in 130 games with the Tribe. In 2006, he hit .280 (151-539) with 32 doubles, 13 home runs and 58RBI in 150 games with the Padres. Barfield has also stolen 35 bases over the past two Major League seasons. Elarton, 32, spent the majority of the 2007 season in the Kansas City Royals organization before being signed late in the year and being assigned to Buffalo. With the Herd, he ended the season with a 1-0 record and a 2.50ERA in nine games (18.0IP, 17H, 7R, 5ER, 5BB, 14K). Elarton also pitched three games with Buffalo during the 2004 season. He was 1-1 with a 3.15ERA. In his Major League career, Elarton is 56-60 with a 5.31ERA in 224 games with Houston, Colorado, Cleveland and Kansas City.
