Shorebirds Fall Short to Hillcats in Series Finale

Delmarva and Lynchburg Split Series

LYNCHBURG, VA: The Delmarva Shorebirds (23-30) were on the wrong side of another one-run game against the Lynchburg Hillcats (30-24) as they fell by a score of 4-3.

The Shorebirds once again jumped out to a first-inning lead thanks to Anderson De Los Santos who scored both Tavian Josenberger and Matthew Etzel with a double to the wall in right-center to make it 2-0 Delmarva.

But the Hillcats would answer both those runs without the benefit of a hit as a pair of walks came in to score on a balk and wild pitch respectively to tie the game two after an inning of play.

It remained 2-2 into the fourth until the Hillcats took their first lead of the game on an RBI double by Luis Durango with Guy Lipscomb scoring him moments later with a run-scoring triple to give Lynchburg a 4-2 advantage.

Anderson De Los Santos would pull the Shorebirds back within a run in the top of the sixth as he scored Matthew Etzel with a sacrifice fly, his third RBI of the game cut the Lynchburg lead to 4-3.

Delmarva would then put the tying run in scoring position in the 7th, 8th, and 9th innings but could not push the decisive run across as the Hillcats would hold on to win the series finale, 4-3.

Starting pitcher Adam Tulloch (5-5) picked up the win for the Hillcats with Juan Rojas (1-2) taking the loss in relief for the Shorebirds. Zane Morehouse (1) earned the save by getting the final three outs in the ninth.

The Shorebirds continue their 12-game road trip on Tuesday night as they travel to Columbia to face the Fireflies with first pitch of the opening game scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Segra Park.
