Shorebirds Win Second Straight One-Run Game

Seventh Inning Rally Puts Delmarva Over-the-Top

LYNCHBURG, VA: The Delmarva Shorebirds (23-29) picked up their second consecutive 4-3 win over the Lynchburg Hillcats (29-24) on Saturday night to take the series lead.

The Shorebirds got off to a quick start as they scored twice in the first inning with their first run coming home on a fielder's choice off the bat of Tavian Josenberger who scored Enrique Bradfield Jr. on a close play at home. Stiven Acevedo then scored Josenberger from second on an RBI single to make it 2-0 Shorebirds.

But the Hillcats would answer and those two runs plus another in the bottom of the first as Guy Lispcomb cleared the bases with two outs as he tripled off the top of the wall in right field, giving Lynchburg a 3-2 advantage after an inning.

The game would remain deadlocked at 3-2 entering the seventh inning but that's when the Shorebirds made their move as they tied it on a fielder's choice off the bat of Jake Cunningham that scored Mac Horvath. Jalen Vasquez propelled Delmarva to the lead moments later with an RBI triple to score Cunningham from first base, giving the Shorebirds a 4-3 edge.

Zane Barnhart made his Shorebirds debut in the seventh and pitched a scoreless inning.

He would then hand the baton to Teddy Sharkey who also made his Delmarva debut and he carried the Shorebirds to the finish line as he retired the final six batters, striking out five of them to secure another 4-3 victory for Delmarva.

Luis De Leon (3-0) earned the win in relief with Teddy Sharkey (1) picking up the save in his first Single-A outing. Reliever Zach Jacobs (8-3) took the loss for the Hillcats.

Delmarva will now go for a series victory over the Hillcats on Sunday afternoon as Raul Rangel gets the ball for the Shorebirds against left-hander Adam Tulloch who will be making his second start of the week. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
